After months of competition, two organizations, SK Telecom T1 and Samsung Galaxy, were left standing in the SK Telecom LTE-A LoL Masters Tournament. The finals were predicted to be a best-of-five slugfest between the two most powerful League of Legends organizations on Earth, but instead it took a Samsung Galaxy swing. The two Samsung teams, Blue and Ozone, combined to sweep SK Telecom T1 S & SK Telecom T1 K in three games.
Samsung Galaxy Ozone vs SK Telecom T1 K
The clinching game saw SK Telecom T1 K pull out all of the stops, and bring Zilean in to support a late game-focused composition. In fact, PoohManDu’s Chrono Shift became the deciding factor for many team-fights between the two powerhouses. If it revived Faker’s Ziggs, or Piglet’s Twitch, they won the fight. If Samsung Ozone forced ManDu to use it on a less vital target, they lost.
The game itself was a race: SKT T1 K would eventually outscale Ozone, so Ozone had to open up a big lead before they were overrun. Though the game looked to be teetering on the edge of oblivion for Samsung around the half hour mark as K won several fights, an SK Telecom Baron call proved to be Ozone’s salvation. While Baron lived in this particular engagement, all three T1 K damage dealers - Impact’s Ryze, Faker’s Ziggs and Piglet’s Twitch - perished. Ozone tore down the middle lane, secured that inhibitor, and saw their gold lead balloon beyond 11k. The lead proved too insurmountable, and Ozone rode it to a victory after fifty minutes on the Rift.
While Looper did post an excellent KDA line against SK Telecom T1 S (5/1/10), it was his game against SK Telecom T1 K that deserves special mention. Ozone botched the early game through some poorly executed map movements, and Looper’s Shyvana fell behind. He vacuumed up four quick kills and turned the tide against Impact’s Ryze by simply bullying Impact away from any sort of farming, pulling himself back into the game. Where Impact should have been scaling, he was helplessly staring at minions die barely out of his reach. Looper held down Impact so effectively that Ryze never became a six item terror, even at fifty minutes into their game. Looper’s presence on the Rift was rewarded with an impressive 9/4/20 KDA and a series clinching win for the Samsung Galaxy organization.
Bae “dade” Eo-jin
The MVP from OGN Champions Spring came into the series with the enviable task of stopping the always dangerous Faker. Dade not only stopped SKT1K’s famous midlaner, but also used his Ziggs (10/2/10 KDA) as the primary impetus behind Blue’s win over T1 K. The constant stream of Bouncing Bombs, and perfectly placed Mega Inferno Bombs won Blue the AoE team-fight war by hammering the T1 K back line, while Satchel Charges were used as a peel or a tool to secure a clutch kill throughout the one game Blue played during the finals.
Games of the Week
Samsung Galaxy Blue vs SK Telecom T1 K A battle between the last two OGN Champions winners promised an explosive war. It delivered an instant classic. Samsung Blue built one of the best AoE team-fighting compositions available, and T1 K countered it with an AoE heavy composition of their own. As a result, a barroom brawl erupted early, and didn’t stop until SK Telecom T1 K’s Nexus was destroyed. Samsung Blue scored early kills to build an advantage, but T1 K fought back with key team-fight wins to even the scales. Blue maintained a slight edge throughout due to their control of several key objectives, but it was not overwhelming until they secured a late Baron. The buff’s additional stats, as well as 10+ KDAs on Deft’s Kog’Maw and dade’s Ziggs, gave Samsung Blue all of the edge they needed to shatter SK Telecom T1 K’s team one final time in a cataclysmic team-fight. Once T1 K was aced, it was simply a matter of Blue breaking T1 K’s Nexus after thirty-nine minutes of pulse-pounding action.
