The GPL quarterfinals kicked off with a showdown between former GPL champions AHQ, and the as-yet titleless veterans, Singapore Sentinels. Though the Taiwanese team has always been formidable, SGS hoped that AHQ's recent defeat meant that there was an exploitable crack in their defense.
Though usually overshadowed by his carries Westdoor and GarnetDevil, Naz was the man with all the plays against the Singapore Sentinels. He played three different champions over the course of three games, and all to a stellar level – the third and final game was an especially dominant performance for him: with a Kha'zix that literally clawed its way through the Sentinels' ranks to an 8-1 finish, and wielded map control with an unshakeable grasp.
AHQ E-SPORTS CLUB VS SINGAPORE SENTINELS
Game 1 Singapore Sentinels started the game on strong footing – by 17 minutes they had full control of Dragon, and were edging ahead in the turret race. But it didn't last very long; GreenTea gave them a swift reminder why his Thresh was consistently banned in Group A. BeNw might have taken down the outer top lane turret, but he stumbled face-first into a Death Sentence. With his life fed directly to GarnetDevil, AHQ's Jinx quickly began demolishing turrets. Game 2 The pressure was on the Sentinels after AHQ's uncharacteristically clean Game 1, so they opted for a team composition that emphasized control over all else. Between Morgana, Ryze and Varus, they could hold any target in place long enough to kill off, which contributed to AHQ's highest death count of the series. Although they managed to punish AHQ by acing them at Dragon 23 minutes in, unfortunately, they did so by being aced themselves! Despite Westdoor dying often this game, his Shockwaves were still powerful enough to break through SGS's layers of control. Game 3 With only one game left before their defeat, the Sentinels were under duress to pull out a victory. They ramped up their aggression yet again, denying Westdoor his blue buff and going deep under turrets to pick up kills on AHQ. Unfortunately, their crucial bot lane gank at 16 minutes was ill-fated. Westdoor's Orianna delivered her ball right into the middle of the Sentinels' team, blew Ddan up, scattering the Sentinels, and allowed AHQ to take the last outer turret down, granting them control of the map.MVP
