Which teams will prove they have what it takes to fight on the LCS stage this Summer? It’s time to see if there will be any additional team shake-ups among the LCS and Challenger Series at the 2015 Summer Promotion Tournament.

What’s the format? Who’s competing?

The Promotion Tournament will be Best of 5 matches on April 25-26. The 8th and 9th place LCS teams will compete against the 2nd and 3rd place Challenger teams from Spring Split. The 8th place LCS team selected their opponent from the two opposing Challenger teams. Europe:
  • Giants (EU LCS 9th place) vs. Reason Gaming (EU CS 3rd place)
  • Roccat (EU LCS 8th place) vs. Copenhagen Wolves Academy (CS 2nd place)
North America:
  • Winterfox (NA LCS 8th place) vs. TDK (NA CS 2nd place)
  • Dignitas (NA LCS 9th place) vs. Team Fusion (NA CS 3rd place)

What’s on the line?

Two LCS spots are up for grabs in North America and Europe. The winners of the Promotion Tournament will play in the LCS in their region for Summer Split. If your favorite team is defeated, you’ll still be able to cheer them on as part of the Challenger scene. The losing teams of the Promotion Tournament will auto-qualify for CS Summer Split.

When is it all happening? How do I watch it?

The Promotion Tournament kicks-off with all the European matches at 5:00am PDT / 2:00pm CEST on Saturday, April 25. The tournament action will continue on with the North American matches on Sunday, April 26 at 10:00am PDT / 7:00pm CET. Tune in to Lolesports to see what teams will join the LCS or Challenger Series for Summer Split.

Hey, could an employee from Riot or just someone who understands explain this to me? I'm a little confused.

In both regions, the CS team that placed 3rd faces the 9th LCS team, and the CS team who place 2nd faces the 8th seed team. This seems strange to me, as it means in most cases usually that the second place team actually would then have a harder time entering. For example, I think I can say with some certainy that Roccat are easily a harder matchup than Giants Gaming. (Giants only having this chance after winning a tiebreaker to stay in the race, while Roccat were in contention for playoffs until the last week). Reason Gaming therefore get the easier matchup for placing lower in the standings. Shouldn't this be the other way around? The higher tiered team get the percieved easier matchup? Now, I'm no expert, so maybe I just don't understand, but it does seem a little strange to me.

I want to know why ROCCAT and Winterfox chose the stronger/higher seeded CS teams to face instead of the weaker/lower seeded ones?
