Why is RIOT forcing SK to play?

SK Gaming in chaos after player revolt

I can't be the only person here looking at this and wondering how in the world you came to this decision.

We got a team in the LCS that is apparently under some kind of duress about their management and they're on the verge of forfeiting.

Riot's response was that the team needs to play out the matches.

I'm sorry for the tone you're going to read in this comment, but...

In what way to you intend to force this out of them? How the hell do you intend to enforce this? Do you in fact have brain worms inserted into the ears of the LCS pros, so that you can compel them against their will to fight it out when they have no desire to do so?

We, the community, demand answers.

I, for one, do not want to see players making an 85% effort on the rift so that they can claim they "fulfilled their contract" when it came to playing.

In no way should this ever be a 9-5 style office job. We don't want to see players being miserable while fighting it out on the rift, except for the obvious moments where someone drafted like a moron and created an opressive laning experience for their team. That, of course, comes with the territory.

is this even a real question? they are under contract of actually playing, it's not Riot's issue of whatever internal issues the team/organization is going through. This is their jobs, if they can't handle whatever issues they have that's not Riot's concern but the actual organization itself. The fact that the organization let things get this far tells you a great deal about it and because of that there is nothing for Riot to answer. If you are going to ask questions to anyone you should be asking SK's management staff as to why they let things get so out of control

it becomes up to them when they pay them 12 thousand dollars per season, promote them, give them the ability to become something almost instantly in the streaming world to make up to 6 figures per year with the help of a little bit of personality and kindness to their fans. I don't think they should be made to do anything, but asking them doesn't hurt, like "hey, remember how we turned your basement life into unlimited weeb pussy, and the ability to eat something other than mcdonalds and Ramen?"

Guess I was the only one that read the article all the way to the end.

Update July 15, 4:30pm CT: In a post on Reddit, Riot staffer Jason Yeh disputed the claims made by one of the sources in this article.

"To clarify, we absolutely did not tell players of SK Gaming that they had to play the remainder of their games to preserve competitive integrity," Yeh wrote. "Any final decision in this kind of case would be between the players and organization. If SK Gaming is unable to field a complete roster for any week, they would have to forfeit their matches that week."
