[Suggestion] LCS Promotion Tournament Structure
Hi all - not a frequent poster here, but as a devout player & diehard LCS fan, decided to put this up in the hopes it might be seen by the right people. :)
The Promotion Tournament that we will see this summer corrects a few of the past problems with the promotions from the past (namely, getting rid of auto-relegation and avoiding occasional strange matchups where the 3rd CS seed gets to play against a "soft" 8th place LCS team). But it has problems of its own - it makes implicit assumptions about the strength of LCS vs. CS teams, it only affords 2 deserving CS teams the opportunity to move up, and its structure (1 play-in match between LCS 10th place and CS 2nd place, then a 4-way win-and-you're-in, two-chances set with 3 winners) is a confusing mess.
A far clearer - and more equitable - way to find the best teams from the set of CS winners and LCS er... non-winners
** would be a straight double-elimination bracket with 6 teams (3 LCS; 3 CS), 2 byes (awarded to the 8th place LCS team and the 1st place CS team), and the last 3 remaining teams earning a spot in the LCS**. This model makes far fewer assumptions about the relative strength of LCS and CS teams, letting them fight it out in a way that filters the strongest teams to the top while setting up as many LCS vs. CS matchups as possible. Unlike the current and past iterations of the promotion tourney, any combination of teams can make or miss the cut - it's all based on performance.
I've linked an image of the bracket that would be used for such a tournament. Please forgive my crappy MS Paint work. :)

Example of how the NA Promotion Tourney would work (all matches BO3):
The Teams LCS: Ekko Fox (EKO) ranked #8, Team Implode (IMP) ranked #9, Liquidated (LQD) ranked #10 CS: Team Roast (RST) ranked #1, Team Baron Knights (TBK) ranked #2, The Walking Fred (FRD) ranked #3
Day 1 LQD versus TBK. Winner: TBK LQD moved to Second Chance Bracket IMP versus FRD. Winner: IMP FRD moved to Second Chance Bracket
Day 2 EKO versus TBK. Winner: TBK TBK earns LCS Spot; EKO moved to Second Chance Bracket RST versus IMP. Winner: RST RST earns LCS Spot; IMP moved to Second Chance Bracket
Day 3 - Second Chance Bracket LQD versus IMP. Winner: IMP LQD eliminated FRD versus EKO. Winner: EKO FRD eliminated IMP versus EKO. Winner: IMP EKO eliminated; IMP earns LCS Spot
While I think this will be a much better approach than the current structure, it certainly has strengths and weaknesses of its own, so all feedback is welcome. Thanks, guys!
