Febiven: Feeling confident facing SKT

Fnatic have made it to the Mid-Season Invitational Playoffs. Now comes the hard part. With a 2-3 record, they snuck out of the Group Stage, leaving Team SoloMid and Beşiktaş e-Sports Club behind them. It may not be a winning record, but with impressive showings in their matchups, Fabian “Febiven” Diepstraten is feeling confident going into the Semifinals against SK Telecom T1. "We are very confident because we have a positive scrim record against SKT," he says. "We know that we can beat them."

Who let the underdogs out?

SKT may be the favorite in their Semifinal match, but Febiven says he doesn't care. "I really don't think about if people say that we're the underdog team. I really don't mind what people say. It doesn't matter for me who we play against. I'm just here to get some experience, because this is the first time four of us are at an international event." That relaxed mindset is incredibly impressive for such a young and inexperienced player -- the rookie is only 18 -- but he's remarkably aware of how to avoid going on tilt. "Sometimes it's hard, because it just triggers in my head that I am a little bit mad or sad that I played badly," he says. "I just have to get over it and accept that I made a mistake. Everyone is going to make mistakes, so there's no need to be mad after that." His team is a bit more difficult to handle, he jokes. "It's still hard to control everyone on the team, though, because everyone has their own emotions." If everyone on Fnatic can stay as calm as Febiven, they might just have a chance to upset the best teams in the world here in Tallahassee.

Eyes to the future

Febiven says that, while MSI is important to Fnatic, it's just a stepping stone on the team's way to the 2015 World Championships. "Being here is going to [help us improve so much] that we will be super strong playing in the EU LCS. We can just take everything we learned here home and just dominate EU. We'll get to Worlds and hopefully win there." First, though, they're going to have to make it through a Best of 5 against SKT. "We are feeling pretty confident going into a Best of 5, because we already played two in the EU LCS," says Febiven. "We learned a lot from that. I'm just looking forward to playing a Best of 5 because it's going to be more games, so it's going to be more exciting." That experience gives them the perspective they need if they happen to go down early in the series against SKT. "If we lose the first game, then we obviously need to see what made us lose, and then we need to adapt and ban some champions that cost us the game," he says. "Then we can go to the next game with a fresh mind." That fresh mind is vital to Fnatic's victory, especially for a roster that doesn't have very much international experience. Win or lose, Febiven thinks that MSI is great experience for a majority rookie roster. No matter what, they're going to learn something here. "We're going to improve more, and that's all that matters."

Why do people think Febiven is arrogant? All he's said is that he's confident after their scrims, we've all seen that they came very close against SKT and that bug clearly ruining their day.

It doesn't even look like they are trying to win super hard they're just hyped for the experience and learning opportunity, win or lose.

I really really love that before it started everyone from NA was like''TSM TSM TSM FNC sucks they won't even make it out of groups''. and even downvoting all comments believe in FNC got like -30 at least. and now they say nothing 'cos TSM couldn't make it out of groups and they still said that FNC where bad when they lost 2 SKT. Mad muricans confirmed

Compared to all the other matches, even the casters agree, the Fnatic vs SKT one was the closest in the tournament. Fnatic really had a good start/mid and honestly if it wasn't for that Bug (godamnit rito) Fnatic might have won. This shows that SKT has chinks in is armour and Fnatic are one of the only teams in the tournament that can show this. It is a best of 5, but i feel like Fnatic will atleast give SKT a run for their money in the semi-finals. GL to Fnatic and Febiven.

He has all the potential in the World, same as Bjergson still has, its impressive how Febiven has had the confidence to put a fight against the likes of Faker, has had a match with Pawn and Westdoor also and most likely will fight against Easyhoon today, at his age (18) that is remarkable. Huni and Reignover also have shown the gods of there own country that they are top material. If anything the top 4 teams have GREAT jungler, top laner and Mid Laner. I fear however that EDG clearly wins the boat on Bot Lane Duo.

Oh god, yet another article not about TSM where people came to talk shit about TSM. Ya'll must have been waiting for them to lose and to be able to say EU is better for a while now, huh? TSM outperformed at Worlds, where none of the EU teams even made it out of groups (lol Kabumi), TSM won IEM and the NA spring split, but your moment is finally in, TSM has finally played poorly at a championship event.

It's the nature of the game people. Every team loses eventually. We'll see how it goes down at Worlds, lol.

it's exciting to think that Febiven only made it onto the pro scene this season and he's already at this level with this new team. if the team sticks together with rekkles they could go a long way

How can this guy sound so confident? He got steamrolled by westdoor, who's a great player not doubt; but not a world-class top mid laner like Pawn or Faker. Bjergsen is a better mid laner than him imo, and I'm saying this as a LPL fan, neither for EU or NA.
