Esports works in relatively similar ways for every game: a competitive environment in which gamers aim to show their mettle as one of the best to pick up and play the game. Even for League of Legends, its esports scene had to start from somewhere, dating back to Season 1 where competition existed prominently through only two regions. Fast forward to the present, the esport has expanded to feature 13 regions with individual competition in each region. There exist 5 Major regions and 8 formerly titled "Wildcard" regions (fans still refer to them as such as it was only that of a recent change this season)
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "first battles" but I can explain the LCS tagline. LCS stands for League Championship Series, which is the more commonly known title for Competitive LoL. The tagline however is only used for regional competition in North America and Europe, the originating two regions of the roots of competition (and a few outliers that grew going into the following season). Every other region has its own form of a league and I've seen sometimes referred to its own "LCS":
The 5 Major Regions - The more recognized Leagues in recent years
NALCS - North American League Championship Series
EULCS - European League Championship Series
LCK - League Champions Korea (Korean LCS)
LPL - League Pro League (Chinese LCS)
LMS - League Master Series (Taiwanese/Macao/Hong Kong (TW) LCS)
The 8 "Wildcard"/Developing/Minor/Play-In Regions - The lesser Leagues coming up to relevancy as of late
LLN - Liga Latinoamérica Norte (Latin America North League - LAN)
CLS - Copa Latinoamérica Sur (Latin America South Cup - LAS)
OPL - Oceanic Pro League (Australian (OCE) LCS)
CBLOL - Circuito Brasileiro de League of Legends (Brazilian (BR) LCS)
GPL - Garena Pro League (Southeast Asia (SEA) League - Consists of 6 core countries no longer including what became LMS)
TCL - Turkish Champions League (Turkey (TR) LCS)
LCL - League Continental League (Russian/CIS (RU) LCS)
LJL - League Japan League (Japanese (JP) LCS)
Each of the 13 regions has domestic competition between teams regarded as some of the best to have played the game. Each season, there exists two splits where teams will play in round robin style for seeding into playoff brackets. Winners of those playoffs qualify to MSI - the Mid Season Invitational - held after the first split in the season (sometime in late April / Early May). The second split follows a similar pattern only with playoffs giving a more critical objective for the teams by granting a free ticket to the World Championships to the winner. More teams from the Major Regions qualify to the same event through other conditions met: the most Championship Points on the entire year and the winner of a Worlds Qualifier bracketed in a King of the Hill format based on the most points.
TLDR: There are no directly arranged brackets. Everything bracket based is made based off of round robin competition (at least for Riot Events)
There's more I can say, but that's just a gist of answers.
