Ask The Pro is an ongoing series on lolesports.com, where we ask a pro player questions from the community. The player then picks the next pro the community will get to ask questions. Be sure to follow us on Twitter to submit your questions for the next Q&A!
In our last Ask The Pro interview, we talked with
Gambit's Darien about top lane matchups, the international scene, and his favorite Russian novels.
He also had a question for CLG's Aphromoo.
Pro Play
Darien: What makes supporting so easy?
Aphromoo: I have a big... yeah. That's why.
Snowflake: If you had to support another ADC in the world, who would it be?
A: Playing with Sneaky would be super fun, for sure!
RR: What's been the best experience of your competitive career so far? Do you have any regrets?
A: The best experience has been my time on CLG, by far. Making irreplaceable best friends with my teammates and hanging out with all of them. The only regret I have is leaving TSM.evo before PAX in Season 2. Would've made Worlds 100%.
Guy: When TSM.evo disbanded, you glumly said you choked in LANs. How did you get your head right?
A: I had no experience whatsoever in LANs, so of course I would choke during my first instances. And then I got over it. I knew I could beat anyone I played against and I still believe that every game I play.
Mateus: What was the biggest reason that made you move from ADC to Support?
A: It was the only spot I could be on a professional team for.
Rubik: If you had the chance to switch roles now, would you?
A: It's bad to keep switching roles. So, no, I wouldn't.
Christine: What stupid thing did you do when you were a new player that you laugh at now looking back?
A: Not being social enough back then is my stupid thing that I did, I would always just go back to the hotel after a loss. RIP.
Mandie: Do you ever feel underappreciated as a support?
A: Yeah, but that's something all supports just have to deal with internally. My team does a great job of giving me credit for some things, but, overall, it's whatever. I just want to win.
Tanner: Which teammate do you connect with most outside of the game?
A: All of my teammates. I make sure that everyone is feeling okay and I consistently ask them questions when we're out to force them to speak up and interact.
JC: How's it feel going from small time in your room streaming to playing for one of the best teams in the world?
A: I do miss streaming in my room by myself a lot of the time. It allowed me to reach out to my supporters more often and let them know what was up with me. Now that I'm really really busy trying to become the best support that I know I can be, I really have small amounts of time to give back.
Halp!
Lee: What advice would you give to help players be better supports?
A: Walk forward. Use your face. Slap dat ass. Don't be afraid!
Henry: What's your goal as a support for the 20-minute mark?
A: Make sure that (1) bottom lane was won by me, (2) my ADC is stronger than their ADC, and (3) have as few deaths as possible with my core items. (Sightstone, rank 2 boots, and my second gold-per-10 upgrade)
Savion: What is the most neglected support that you would like to see receive a kit update?
A: The most neglected support is definitely Taric. He used to be so prominent at the start of 2013 LCS, but now he's fallen off because all supports do what he does but better.
Aflexius: any tips for landing the W Q Alistar combo?
A: Be patient and don't rush it. It's very, very smooth and easy to do. I listen to a lot of DnB [Drum and Bass music] so it's like a two-beats to me. BOOM… boom.
James: Why don't more pro supports play Alistar? You've clearly shown that he is a viable competitive pick.
A: Alistar is a very weak laner until 6. After laning phase, he's one of the scariest supports to play against. Most bot lanes just go for strong lanes every single game, and I pride our bot lane for being able to win lane with a weaker lane.
Daniel: What's your opinion of Braum?
A: Braum is a really strong champion. He has a weak laning phase in competitive play, similar to Alistar, so it's very hard to get kills early on as you would in solo queue. After laning phase, he's a top-tier god support that can win you the game if you use his abilities well. He has super long cooldowns, so being precise with your spells is necessary to be a great Braum player. Also right-clicking to get those stuns off, ha!
Anna: How can a support manage their time in game in order to become a good shot caller?
A: Well, it requires a lot of effort to be efficient with your skills, positioning, and calling the next thing the team should do during intense moments. Which all required me to consistently fail to be great at. I never give up.
Fun Times
Ymman: Will you ever grow your Afro again?
A: *smiles*
Garzog: What is your favorite video?
A: Here's one of my favourite videos by Phillips Lacanlale.
Fred: If you could be another person for just a day, who would it be?
A: Travis "The Gaff" Gafford, because he gets all the hunnies.
Joseph: What's your favorite type of food?
A: Seafood.
Frederick: Who in the CLG gaming house can do the most pushups?
A: Our manager Mattcom or Kelby, ha!
LoLesports: What pro player would you want to answer questions next? Would you like to ask him anything?
A: Dyrus. Do you miss our adventures, THE POTENTIAL!?
Josh Augustine's favorite champion is Thresh, he's never enjoyed a Darius, and he will always go for the kill, even when he knows he shouldn't. He currently works as a game designer on EverQuest Next at Sony Online Entertainment. He’d love to talk with you on Twitter.
