It's almost time to see some surprise picks and strange combos as Challenger teams prove they have what it takes to be part of the LCS. With Challenger Series (CS) Summer Playoffs coming up, top CS teams are getting ready to battle for auto-promotion into the LCS and to secure their spots at the Promotion Tournament. Here’s everything you need to know about CS Summer Playoffs:

Format

The CS Spring playoffs will be a Best of 3 (Bo3) bracket with Bo5 Finals taking place over 2 weeks:

  • CS Summer Playoffs, Semifinals: August 4 and August 5
  • CS Summer Playoffs, 3rd Place: August 11
  • CS Summer Playoffs, Finals: August 12

EU CS

  • Gamers2

In the first round of Playoffs, Team Dignitas EU will face-off against Denial Esports on August 4. Gamers2 will take on Mousesports on August 5. For the full EU CS Playoffs schedule and times, visit the EU CS Summer Playoffs bracket.

NA CS

  • Team Coast
  • Renegades
  • Team Imagine
  • Cloud9 Tempest

We’ll kick-off the Semifinals of NA CS Playoffs with Renegades vs. Team Imagine on August 4 then, Team Coast vs. Cloud9 Tempest on August 5. For the full Playoffs schedule and times, view the NA CS Summer Playoffs bracket.

What’s on the line?

The 1st place team after CS Playoffs will automatically qualify for the 2016 LCS Spring Split. The 2nd and 3rd place finishers from Playoffs will qualify for the Promotion Tournament where they will face off against the 8th and 9th place LCS teams to be a part of the Spring Split of the LCS. The losing teams from the Promotion Tournament will qualify for the 2016 Challenger Series Spring regular season.

What about the Promotion Tournament?

The 2016 Spring Promotion Tournament will happen on September 5-6. The 8th place LCS teams will select their Promotion Tournament opponent from the 2nd and 3rd place CS teams. With the conclusion of the LCS regular season, the following LCS will participate in the Promotion Tournament:

  • Gambit Gaming (8th place EU LCS team)
  • SK Gaming (9th place EU LCS team)
  • Team 8 (8th place NA LCS team)
  • Enemy Esports (9th place LCS team)

Copenhagen Wolves and Team Dragon Knights auto-qualify to be part of the 2016 Spring CS regular season.

How do I catch all the Playoffs action?

Stay tuned to Lolesports to see what NA and EU Challenger teams will automatically become part of the LCS and what Challenger teams will qualify to fight for a chance to become a part of the LCS at the Promotion Tournament. We won’t have a live studio audience for the Summer Challenger Series Finals or the Promotion Tournament, although will still be played be on the LCS stage.

G2 and either CST or RNG will auto qualify for the LCS the rest are harder to figure out.

I think RNG/CST has a solid shot to beat probably NME. T8 likely crushes the 3rd place CS team.
