So I always try and get into watching worlds every year and I watch pro games that happen all year up to worlds but I don't quite understand how it all works. Can anyone explain in detail how the pro season works? I'd like to know what's going on with the games happening now, what the winners of these games will get, what the next games will be and so on ETC. thank you in advance

Afaik there is a spring and summer split, each split awards prize money to the top teams and 'points'. Teams with the most points head to worlds to be part of groups stages of worlds, 3rd place teams and top teams from smaller regions get placed into qualifying matches at worlds to see who is placed into groups.

I'm sure lolesports.com explains in large detail how everything works.

The format of League eSports goes along these lines:

  • 13 Leagues from around the world compete across two splits for a chance to participate in the World Championship in October.
  • All League formats play under round robin rules as their regular season format, meaning each team plays every other team and standings are determined by win/loss. Some leagues that do Best of 3 in their round robin use game differential to influence standings as well.
  • The top teams out of the regular season will advance to the playoff bracket; think of your typical bracket tournament with a few catches depending on the league. It's in playoffs where teams are vying for two rewards: Championship Points and a ticket to the upcoming international event for the split in mention: MSI (Mid Season Invitational) for the Spring, and the World Championship for the Summer.

In other words, to answer the questions you're having now, all leagues are still in the early parts of the season as it's only begun as of about 3 weeks ago. From now until mid to late March, teams will be playing against one another on scheduled days under the round robin format. Winners are simply jockeying for position on the standings of their league which is often the higher, the better. As for when to watch: with the Lunar New Year, three major regions are offline this week. There's plenty of ways to check the schedule for upcoming matches. Just comes down to making a routine and keeping it to mind.
