Why reddit over the boards?

I keep hearing that reedit has more healthy conversations about the game than the boards. But every time I go over there, they only have posts talking about lcs stuff. Is there any actual league conversation there? why choose reddit over the league forums?

the mods on the reddit are pretty strict about what can and can't be posted. they are allowed to be so strict because they are independent from riot itself, so they feel more comfortable moderating however they want. Some people call this good, some people call it bad.

The community is larger, and dilutes the small number of toxic commenters better than the boards.

It’s also easier to reach more people. I did twin posts on the boards and Reddit. On the boards, 15.6k views is really, really good. But on Reddit, I got 175k+ views. The same article reached a lot more people.

Honestly, I’d say Reddit is more competitive as well, and people are much more likely to downvote a post on it early, trying to make theirs look better. However, once it picks up momentum that usually disappears.

Reddit is an echo-chamber.

Reddit = exposure. Boards are a targeted niche service which only LoL players have a real reason to access (and are further subdivided by region). Reddit has global relevance, so people already using it for other purposes don't need to use another login to engage in conversations.

Reddit is where all the casuls go.

They don't, because discussions about the game's design or balance are typically deleted, and "troublemakers" banned, including some actual pro players or content creators who personally went there to give feedback on the game. There have been quite a few controversies surrounding moderation on the subreddit, but the overall picture is that the mod team has been doing whatever they can to get under Riot's good graces (you can see some of them on the Boards & Moderation Discord server), and that's involved censoring a whole lot of discussion and criticism of Riot or League. This is also why most threads on there relate to e-sports, and why it's very rare to see any feedback on the game itself, or any mention of, say, the class action lawsuit Riot's currently facing, even though the subreddit couldn't remove all of the stories regarding the sexist culture beforehand. If you want a Stepford Wives-esque atmosphere of eerily homogeneous positivity, Reddit's your go-to, but if you want to raise discussion on balance or design, expect to have your thread deleted by a mod, or to have your account banned from the subreddit.
