GD moderation: Not everything a politician does should be considered a politics post

I made a post talking about Trump ranting on Twitter and it was deleted as a political post. I never mentioned any political views, just the act of ranting on twitter itself.

I think that considering this as politics is actually a problem, because it divides things that are supposed to be basic human decency into party lines and becomes something political. BASIC HUMAN DECENCY SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED POLITICAL. If the president of the USA or any other world leader gets into a bar fight, it should not be considered political to criticize their behavior. Considering it political just causes a bigger party divide where one side who supports their candidate will defend them regardless of the shitty behavior while the other side will lambaste them. This is already happening, but it's not healthy and we should be changing it rather than reinforcing it. Basic human decency should be bipartisan. If a politician acts like a shithead by regular human standards (most people regardless of politics would consider getting into a barfight a bad thing), both sides should agree that he's acting like a shithead. It shouldn't be considered political to be saying that he acts like a shithead.

If Justin Bieber had been prime minister of canada when he threw eggs at houses a few years ago, it shouldn't be considered political to call him out on it. Bad behavior is bad behavior regardless of whether the guy doing it is a republican, a democrat, a tory, a neoliberal, etc.

Really, we have people defending the likes of Anthony Weiner just because of their political party because people see the party before they see the person.

Your sentiment is nice and all, but the issue isn't whether you are siding with anybody by talking about a politician.

The issue is that discussions of politics always cascade into flame wars.

It doesn't matter how eloquently or neutrally you post your thinking, because no matter what the post will attract people who make divisive statements and inflame each other with antagonistic or demeaning statements. The mods delete and/or lock threads having to do with politics because of the shitstorm that follows in the comments, not because the post itself dared talk about a politician.

My question is why you have to post that here. There are a million other social platforms out there. The purpose of these Boards is to discuss things that are directly related to LoL, with the occasional meme or personal story. If I wanted to read about politics, I would've checked the news. Riot wants to use the Boards as a means of getting feedback, so it's only a hindrance to have political discussion of any kind here since that only detracts from the game. Besides, these Boards are toxic enough without bringing in politics. I understand that weren't trying to make any political statements with your original posts, but what do you think the comment section would've been like? We simply cannot allow the Boards to become more toxic when we can avoid it.

While I can understand that mentioning politics itself does not necessarily equate to taking a side in politics; I want to echo what someone above me has said.

It doesn't matter how eloquently or neutrally you post your thinking, because no matter what the post will attract people who make divisive statements and inflame each other with antagonistic or demeaning statements.

Mentioning politics is bound to have someone mention their personal opinion on said politcal post/discussion, which will cause toxicity and anger and frustration on all sides. Overall, there are many better platforms to talk about politics, but this is a League of Legends forum, we all love video games here. That's what we're here for. Politics just don't fit and you'd be much better off simply going on a platform more catered to it.
