Discussion Categories: Too Broad / Too Many

There have been many topics added to the Discussion Boards since I started coming here. In a way that is a good thing. I think it helps people to find what they are looking for.

However, the fact that the discussion guidelines are way too ambiguous, and that there are too many topics that have overlap, MAKES IT HARDER to post something that could be reported and justified as being in the wrong category.

I do not believe that moderators should be able to remove a post that they feel falls within a different category unless the topic is WAY out of the scope, or if leaving it up creates a SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM.

I will give an example. The following was removed from Gameplay

The reason I was given

This content has been removed as not being appropriate to the Gameplay sub-board. We expect posts here to be relevant to League of Legends and be generally constructive in nature. This would include builds, matchups, tactics and the like. General Discussion seems to be a better fit for your post.

The post

Played a Normal match on SR the other day where we invaded, pushed the enemy off of their Blue then took it.

Our jungler used Smite too early, which left it with just enough health that I, Neeko support, ended up taking it with a basic attack, then he flamed me about it.

First of all, .. Smite at level 1 deals 390 true damage. Neeko has 48 AD at level 1. We had killed their jungler, and the enemy wasn't really threatening to contest us, so there was no reason to Smite as soon as possible, ... if at all, really.

Also, we put the enemy jungler behind too. Take the assist gold, back to base to reset, and start in your own jungle without a leash. Their jungler isn't going to get a leash either.

Instead, they went to our Red and tried to do it with low health and no Smite. They couldn't. They backed and ended up losing other camps to the Lee who solo'd their first camp and invaded because they wasted so much time.

So, if you're a jungler and this happens to you, don't blame your support that you're behind.

In this post I described the GAMEPLAY, explained what happened, why it happened, then what happened afterward. I also explained how the result could have been avoided. To me, that is not only gameplay, but constructive advice and a tactic for handling an unfortunate situation. Was I a little "Ranty"? Sure. I might have prevented this in a way that seemed a little friendlier toward the jungler, but I found his response both humorous and a little frustrating, .. and I presented it in this way because I feel like we have probably all been there. Even my title "Leashing: Sorry, not sorry (A little sorry)" is supposed to be humorous! And I did feel empathy for the guy. I HAVE HAD THAT HAPPEN TO ME! And I probably didn't take the proper action, but I didn't flame my team.

So returning to my point, there needs to be a lot less grey area in these categories, or the mods need to chill a lot on their tendency to delete a post.

And, .. I don't know that it is really relevant, but that post had 15 - 20 comments on it, .. I feel like that should have some weight in if something should be allowed to be deleted. Put a note on there and lock the comments, but leave it up.

That's part of the problem, right there. Posters have a wide variety of perspectives and ways of thinking. There will always be some people who believe we remove too much, others want us to remove more.

As to your post itself, it's an anecdote, which makes it immediately suspect for Gameplay. If you want to tell the story of something that happened to you, that's a better fit for GD.

Your post is also simply about maintaining a positive attitude. While that's important, it's also more suited for GD, as it doesn't discuss tactics, matchups, builds or the like.

Look at it this way: if you want to have a conversation about League, head to GD. If you want to analyze League, post in Gameplay.

This isn't a problem with "discussion categories"; it's a problem with quality content. Your post which got removed was a LoL storytime rant, so it belonged in Rant or GD, which have very lax rules. Threads posted to Gameplay are expected to be of higher quality.

There is other regional boards where the moderators rarely remove misplaced content unless the topic is even more out of scope than what you have in mind and I can tell you, those boards look messy and unorganized. New members do not want to visit other than to incite drama or rant. Such boards are a minefield and you can easily find them. There is no quality content, no enthusiastic new members and NO Rioters on there due to that.
