How much the Boards community has changed.

Just incase you want to see just how much the boards community has changed, imagine if I posted something this idoitic in the current day's boards: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/GD/wlb7WhJk-i-was-almost-attacked-by-a-demon

I would've been made fun of and probably down voted into oblivion. Also yes, I was very troubled 4 years ago and the boards was one of the places I took it out. I was on the League forums too, but they removed the forums years ago. Now n days you post a single opinion and you're downvoted into hell. Idk what happened tbh, I think the boards attracted more redditors, because that's basically how redditors function. I can't post anything stupid anymore. People also get a lot more offended now that might be why. If I called my girlfriends (who I don't have, I'm into men) a whore in 2019... oh man... Also I was 13 at the time.. Maybe 12? Idk, but as you could see I was very progressive and supportive of trans people. There also just seemed to be a lot more people who could be informative without being insulting. Idk if you guys see all the comments that are informative and creative, but they don't insult me. Seems like that's a lost art on the boards. The reddit meme guy got me tho, but I got him back harder.

Also look at this balance thread: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/NoNOarIK-malzahqt

I did get downvoted because I went toxic in the comments, but literally people wouldn't be toxic back. They deadass said good point to me after I insulted them like I actually had a valid opinion.

But yeah the boards is a lot more like reddit now and it's just a place to yell at the balance team (which is probably why the balance team never actually comes on here or reddit. Except bBaustoise. He said he does. Hi Blaustoise.)

Alas times change. I don't think it is Reddit infecting the boards, but rather the boards and reddit are falling into the same trap: They are becoming overly "corporate" in a way. It used to be more organizations, especially forums, put their users first. But now? It seems that very few places actually care about the individual anymore, and instead are completely focused on large-scale "safe" policies.

I mean Reddit admins are growing increasingly strict, and most the top subreddits while they claim to be community run have mods that work for or at least very closely with major companies, such as r/LeagueOfLegends basically being pawns of Riot. And the boards has the same thing, where it claims to be community run but most the mods are not even members of the boards anymore. The latest round of mods here aren't even active board members, meanwhile entire subboards are left without any representation (such as M&G, which is pretty well a mess). Community run ceased to exist, and now it is just amateur run.

Basically, nobody seems to see the forest for the trees anymore. But that cannot just be blamed on those with authority. The sad reality is, people throw tantrums and panic at the drop of a hat. Look at how over the top the community freaks out any time someone in Riot says something they dislike or makes a mistake, such as that one guy who in frustration called the boards useless (even though he apologized right after). People are looking for some excuse to be offended, and moderators both here and on reddit are just coldly keeping the masses calm without bothering to consider the individuals who make up the community. It's not a healthy environment, so it is no surprise it is fading.

It not just the boards, its the world and the boards are one of many things that reflect it.

Seems really silly to blame it on "redditors". Outrage culture is everywhere.

The reason is that users don't try to be objective and make a fair assessment for an issue, instead they make reactionary comments and just fight to protect their egos and prejudices.

For the boards the issue is that the staff doesn't see this as a problem. They like to say that they want productive discussion and so on but that's just empty talk. In practice they are completely hands-off and sometimes even fuel really bad arguments that are based on frustration.

I still remember the "Yasuo is frustrating" and "Zoe is frustrating" topics in Gameplay+.... The fact that the staff thought these are good arguments is just beyond me and it really shows that there is not much hope. Even if there was a place where only honest and objective discussions were allowed I kinda doubt that there will be enough users for it. Most people come here to instantly agree or disagree but not to discuss anything and longer posts are often just constructs of one sided justification attempts for their instant like or dislike...
