Question about thread priority

By thread priority I mean the position a thread reaches up to the front page. I experienced my latest thread to climb quickly to the bottom part of the front page with only few comments, basically no upvotes but pretty many clicks. Even with more comments comming in, the thread dropped in priority every time I commented myself on others' comments. Is there a hidden feature that lets you drop in priority if a high percentage of comments come from the OP or is this a bug?

I do believe it primarily considers view count. If you get, say, 70 unique views an hour for 3 hours, that's better than 30 views an hour for 7 hours, even though they're the same amount. Interaction does influence things, as do likes, but repeat viewers and low view count don't impact the popularity as much.

So, it depends on what mode you're in.

##Recent mode:

Based mainly on number of recent likes+comments (collectively actions) and how long since the action took place. Views/time OP posted do not matter (except that the OP counts as an "action" and so can put it on recent to start with).

##Hot mode:

Based on recent actions and views and the rate at which new actions and views are taking place. New posts automatically get a "bonus" as they obviously have the first actions (the posting and the default OP like by the OP) done.

##Best mode:

Solely based on total number of votes. Time does not matter.

##New mode:

Solely based on time the original thread was posted. Votes, comments, etc. do not matter.
