LORE
On the snowy slopes of Mt. Targon, during the fiercest storm in known history, the Rakkor tribe was berated by the ferocity of nature. The winds sliced through the air and the snow scarred the faces of any brave enough to be outside. They say that 10 Rakkor died that day, more at one time than any had died before. The lands on the mountain were unfamiliar the next day and not a plant nor a tree grew for a whole year. It was during this storm that Typhon was born.
Some say that the storm imbued a part of its fury in Typhon, as he was an unstoppable force on the battlefield. He had all the strength, ferocity, and anger as the storm he was born in. He quickly became difficult for the Rakkor to control and was exiled from the tribe at a young age, doomed to survive by himself on the unforgiving mountain. Survive he did though, gathering more strength over time and more anger towards the Rakkor who abandoned him.
Bitter and alone, Typhon was interested when he heard about the League and more than interested when he heard that one of his former tribesmen was there. It was for this that he decided to depart for the Institute of War; to face Pantheon on the field and to spite the Rakkor who he had once called family.
TIPS
Playing as Typhon
- Use No Escape before activating Thunder's Release to maximize your damage output.
- While activating Storm's Torment will do lots of damage, its passive might be a better use depending on the circumstances!
- Items with health and armor will drastically increase your damage potential.
Playing against Typhon
- Using attack speed slowing items will increase Typhon's vulnerability after he uses Thunder's Release.
- Wait to kill Typhon until after Storm's Torment has been depleted to save your team from massive amounts of damage!
- Armor items work well against Typhon.
NICHE
I came up with the idea for Typhon by having two words in mind, "juggernaut" and "martyrdom". In fact, Martydrom was the original name for Typhon's ultimate, but it didn't seem to fit thematically. Anyways, League already has some juggernaut-esque champions (looking at you Volibear) and some martyr-esque champions (Kog'Maw, Karthus). But the two types don't really mix for any particular champion. Typhon fills that gap. He is an extremely tanky champion when paired with armor/health items and can deal quite a bit of damage on his own. He is similar to Darius in that he has no natural escapes, can be built tanky and yet still deal damage, but he has one significant difference.
Another small thing I ended up incorporating very quickly into his kit is the idea of transitioning from tank to fighter. Activing his abilities will change the roll he is performing, letting the player decide through a unique mechanism what kind of playstyle they have.
The main thing I wanted Typhon to accomplish is to be able to run into a team and shrug off lots of damage, deal damage over time, but then not have to escape the enemy team when his health runs low. Typhon really doesn't care if he dies next to lots of enemies, in fact he prefers it.
THANKS
Thanks for taking the time to check out Typhon, the Storm of Targon. If you liked him, be sure to check out my other champ Kallen, the Inspiration of Demacia, a unique, mobile support champ!
I've also attached a TXT file with sample stats to kind of show what Typhon would look like with hypothetical base stats, a sample build set, and his max damage output of 10 seconds.
NOTE: This is not an actual champion for League of Legends. It is a fan submission.
