Champion Spotlight... Or lack of.

Amongst the many VUs that Riot has underway and cooking in the oven and other projects like patch release(balance, tweaks, nerfs, buffs, new items, etc), champion creation and beta tests and a champion spotlight with every new champion that comes out, I've noticed that out of the almost 120 champions in League of Legends, there's a total of 20 champions that don't have their own spotlight.

I counted each one of them, one by one,(painful task to do) and came up with this following list of spotless champions(in alphabetical order and to the best of my ability): Alistar Alistair, Amumu Amumu, Annie Annie, DrMundo Dr. Mundo, Gragas Gragas, Janna Janna, Kassadin Kassadin, Malphite Malphite, Mordekaiser Mordekaiser, Morgana Morgana, Nasus Nasus, Nunu Nunu, Poppy Poppy, Ryze Ryze, Sion Sion, Taric Taric, Tristana Tristana, Veigar Veigar, Warwick Warwick and Zilean Zilean.

All of these are very fun champions to play in my personnal opinion and while I know there are youtube videos out there that explain the basics of champions like Zilean or Mordekaiser, even Kassadin, they just don't feel or look the same as when the spotlights are done correctly by real Rioters like Phreak who loves to deal tons of damage in each of his games. ;)

That said, since these champions are played within a wide range of builds and effectiveness, why isn't there a reliable voice telling me what kind of build works best for which of these champions? Lack of time? Not enough games played? Too many builds? Already mentioned in a previous champion spotlight? Unclear role? LCS? Worlds? Those are all valid reasons to explain why there are some champions who haven't gotten a chance in the spotlight but it shouldn't be an excuse to not do them, even if it is three or four, even five years after their release.

While this is quite the task, I will only do an overview of the abilities without any gameplay input or video support because that would mean of me going out and get all those champions, farm experience with each one of them while recording some footage of me playing and I don't always perform at my best when playing a champ I'm not used to or don't really want to play.

I'll start off with what I know best and that's Mordekaiser.

Mordekaiser is a melee fighter that deals heavy magic damage with all of his abilities while having extraordinairy sustain and durability in team fights. Originating from the Shadow Isles to manipulate the pain of others, Mordekaiser excels at bullying his opponent out of lane while remaining untouched and push lanes very aggressively for his team.

Mordekaiser's passive is Iron Man. For each enemy hit by one of Mordekaiser's abilities, a portion of the damage done is converted into a slowly decaying shield. The shield will decay by a certain amount every second unless Mordekaiser casts another ability.

It is important to note that Mordekaiser's shield increases based on level and not by the amount of max health he has.

Mordekaiser's Q, Mace of Spades, deals a mix of both physical and magic damage on his next basic attack. Great for last hitting several minions since the effect of Mace of Spades will bounce off to three nearby targets but will deal more damage to a single target if it is alone instead.

Creeping Death is a defensive spell that will increase the target's armor and magic resist for a few seconds and deal damage to enemies. Mordekaiser will want to use it as an aoe spell when farming minions and dueling in lane. While Creeping Death doesn't have much offensive strengths, it can turn the tide in a battle by using it onto your squishies who can clean up teamfights or give your tank an extra kick of durability since Creeping Death can be cast on other units, minions and allied champions will be thankful for it. Or not.

Next is Siphon of Destruction. It is Morde's biggest source of damage since it will hit every enemy in a cone in front of him, giving very strong mid to late game wave clear and taking big chunks of the enemy team's health that dares to stay close together when initiating. It is the most effective ability for keeping Mordekaiser's shield filled while taking heavy amounts of damage and still be healthy enough to take down the enemy tank and clean up a fight around dragon or baron. Mid game, one Siphon onto a wave of unrelenting minions is plenty enough to fully recharge Morde's shield and push lane even more aggressively.

Children of the Grave is Mordekaiser's ultimate, cursing an enemy champion for several seconds by initially stealing a portion of the total damage from a champion's total health and the rest over several seconds. If the target dies while cursed, Mordekaiser gets a ghost copy of it which will give a percentage of attack damage and ability power for 30 seconds. The ghost's stats are also enhanced, because Mordekaiser doesn't let his enemies escape in death's embrace.

That concludes what I have to say for Mordekaiser and I hope others will provide their take on a champion spotlight here as well.

P.S. I know I've left out a few key features but my head hurts really badly right now and I'm not the best Mordekaiser player in the game. I just want him and the other 19 spotless champs to have a Champion Spotlight just as much as the other 100 champions have.

It is because they are all part of the original 40. The only way they will ever get a champion spotlight is if they get reworked or a visual update, but even then it isn't guaranteed.

I only watch the champion spotlights because I love Phreak's voice! XD
