For Everyone Asking About Splash Updates For Old Skins

made this discussion on GD also

I see this subject come up with every thread about a new champion, VU, or skin, and I would like to help clarify some of this. Riot has different departments (teams), so when you ask an artist from the VU team or someone from the balance team or an engineer about splashes, most of the time you're not gonna get the answer you're looking for. We have to understand that Splashes are out IronStylus's hands and not disrespect him when someone insists on questioning him about it ( also any other Rioter who can't isn't on that team).

But I have seen the correct Rioters comment on this many times before. To complete a splash it supposedly takes weeks to a month, so you can understand that when they VU a champion they can't get to their other 4 to 8 skins. Do you know how long that'll take if they actually were to tackle all those skins? Champion VUs already come out so few and far between. And its not like they're not busy. They have skin splashes, champion splashes ( yes I know not many champions), they have VUs ( yes not many of that too) but they're always actively working on new splashes. When one is done they start on the next.

So it it seems to come down to which one takes priority. Can't release a new champion without a splash. Can't release a new skin without a splash. You actually can release a VU without a new splash but they don't. They redo the classic skin, which I am grateful for. To get to the other skins is a huge amount of work and they have to decide what takes precedence. And they decided that, for now, the old splashes can act as placeholders until they are freed up to get to them. Which they actually said they will. They mentioned that after VUs are mostly done and theres champions and skins to mainly do splashes for that they can finally get to the old ones. They haven't forgotten about them, we just need to be patient.

Listen, I got my gripes with Riot too (3 VU releases and its basically July) but it really does show that they do care and try hard. Its just harder for some to notice than others. Lets just all have a little patience and have fun with the game and these forums.

TL;DR: They're not acting lazy or avoiding splashes. They have to prioritize at the moment but promised us that they want to and will tackle all the splashes when they can

Thanks for reading

There are some MMOs who community pics loading splash images by voting the best, giving credit for the work in the game client.

Why doesn't Riot makes contest where players around the world sends their artwork of the needed skins?. Then Riot chooses the best to replace them and gives some RP to the winner

My only question is this:

If it takes a good amount of time to get a VU done (which I understand, I don't have any problems there) and the team that does splash art is separate, why can't they get more splash arts done in the time it takes to do the VU? I'm not angry about it or anything, I'm just legitimately wondering. All in all, I think people complaining about splash arts are nitpicking, just play the game, it really isn't a big issue.

We have had so many champs this season. I can totally see where the time went.....

Lets be honest here. it takes at least 3 to 6 months for a skin and less than a month for splash art. Last season with the 15ish champs released and all the skins they did, now u are telling me that they do not have the personal?

either Riot fired a bunch of people or they are just being lazy

There's a difference between waiting a little time and waiting for almost 2 whole years like we do for Nidalee.

It's exactly 1 year and 6 months ever since she got her VU. Now she got a rework as well. I'm pretty sure there was time within that one and a half year to draw and upload 3 pictures, especially since, according to Riot themselves, they have dedicated teams for each matter.
