[GAME CRASH] a critical error has occurred

This problem has been occurring to me since PBE update 9.17, and now that the update came to live servers my main client is also effected. After Champion Selection the game crashes wit a massage saying 'a critical error has occurred'. And when i reached out to RIOT, they didn't even bothered with my issue. And i am not the only one facing this problem. The only solution i found is uninstall the game and never install it. I bought tons of skin and other virtual items with RP, and would have bought the elderwood and new starguardian line up. But RIOT decided to SCREW ME OVER.

It's a shame how the dev team ignored this, In the past I had this problem as well. It turned out to be my HDD, but now it's come back. Even with my msconfig only running microsoft programs & then launching league, i still get this same issue. Even with me reinstalling the game 4 times, on 3 different drives (HDD & SSD) It's still persistent.

But TFT will be prioritized over this, as many issues have simply because not a lot of people are experiencing it; it'll get fixed as soon as it hits the mainstream audience or happens to a streamer/content creator with a big enough audience.

Until we're unfortunately forced to sit tight and hope for a hotfix. Also spoke to an agent regarding the problem and I got the idea they didn't really know how to get this fixed, simply asked me for a log that was non-existant.

Gotta love it

This has happened to me maybe 2 or 3 times now recently. Annoying because it's always when I play a ranked game and the crash causes me to lose LP and get punished for leaving

I found a fix on my end, they are right about any Overlay software causing problems. In my case it was Rivatuner Statistics server (like FRAPS) that wanted to load but crashed the game. I disable (quit) the software and now LOL launches after the champ select.

On a second compute I fixed the same issue but by doing a windows update and a fresh install (remove and install again) the game.

Also another trick I keep seeing but that did not work for me is to remove/DELETE the LOG and CONFIG folders contained inside the Riot Games folder (likely on the root of your boot disk).

My 2 cents and if this helps even 1 person fix their game then more players to play with :-) Cheers !

Double check that you don't have anything related to cheating open on your computer.

Could be cheat engine open, could be a folder named cheat engine open, could be a browser tab with a cheat engine Google search open.

Not accusing you of anything, but there was a moderately sized shit-fest when people realized this was happening.

GYES NEW UPDATE. RIOT replied to my mail with some suggestions and it actually worked.

Thanks for those, my friend. I'd like you to make sure you've installed the latest Windows Updates: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12373/windows-update-faq

Older versions of Windows can cause conflicting issues with League of Legends, so It's always best to keep it up to date!

After that, I'm also going to ask that you disable all overlays to make sure that none of them are interfering with your game! We often see them cause issues with performance, and crashing.

Next up, I want to try reinstalling your drivers:

Download the most updated Nvidia graphics drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us (or AMD https://www.amd.com/en/support) Start the program and be sure to click 'Custom Installation'. Be sure to check that the 'Clean Installation' checkbox is selected. Restart your computer after installation. If your issue keeps happening, could you send me over a new set of logs after trying that out, It'll help me work with all your new info, and see if any new issues popped up.
