Ekko Killed himself?

Is this a usual occurrence? I was attacking the Ekko and then all of a sudden it credited himself with the kill ;-;. It happened right after he ulted. He ulted and then just immediately died.

I've seen friendly fire, but i've never seen someone kill themselves. Even though death recap sometimes says that you hit yourself for true damage
