Poor Auto attack animations can be cancelled even after visual collision with enemy

Why does an attack have to finish it's full animation even though the clipping through the enemy part has been finished. This obfuscates the whole "attack" process which does not seem to be synced anymore since season 7. Case in point an attampt by nautilus to land an immobilize auto was diregarded as after the huge implement clipped into the champ, the game continued to the next pathing animation without applying damage or on hit effect. Why can't this be simplified?!!!
