Linux on Patch 9.10

Xayaphelia·5/15/2019, 9:27:00 PM·8 votes·5,802 views

I already put in a support ticket and am waiting to hear back on this (will post an update in the forum when I hear back from them) but I want to see how many other people are experiencing this issue or have already found a fix.

Ever since the most recent patch (9.10) I have been able to log in and open the client but as soon as it leaves champ select to load the game the game closes with the error: "A critical error has occurred and the game has closed". Everything seems to be indicating a situation identical to patch 8.13 where the anti-cheat system was booting players out for using WINE version Win 7. When I reverted back to using Win XP the game was working consistently well ever since patch 8.14 with only minor glitches (such as the usual bug-splats and some frame stuttering). But I have heard that XP support has been dropped recently and since Patch 9.10 downloaded I have been unable to play. I have found scattered forums on this topic but most of them are from the patch 8.13 incident. Now that Win XP is no longer supported and no other Windows versions can go through the anti-cheat system, how do we get it working? Is it something that needs to be fixed on Riot's side or WINE's side? How many other people are experiencing this issue?

I have sunk over 300 days of time into this game and would hate to be locked out just because i can't afford a window's license and refuse to pirate software for personal reasons.

Thanks for your thoughts.

[EDIT] for people who dont want to read through the entire thread, a fix HAS BEEN FOUND!!!! https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47198#c15 I personally dont know how to compile this so any helpful info on how to do that would be appreciated. However, if you can get it to work, they are reporting a 100% success rate. there is a typo in the code that needs to be fixed but other than that is a working patch

Thats why i stopped buying RP for as long there is no linux support.

If RITO does not want to support linux, why should I support this company?

I just heard back and the news is very grim indeed.... apparently Riot has NEVER supported WINE under any distros and recommend to just install Mac or Windows... the funny part was them listing Mac first, you know, the worst OS ever created xD

[EDIT] it is actually on WINE to fix the problem so hopefully the winehq thread pulls through for us. we got lots of good people working on it and hopefully some kind of fix gets found soon. I miss the toxic slot machine that is ranked :( nobody has told me to kms because of how awful an adc i am today T-T

@giannishannibal I don't use anti-virus because I am a good boi on the interwebs :) anti-virus is just a pain as an incompetent gamer and has just sucked up processing power and locking me out of games. Same thing with dual-booting, I can't figure out how it works or how virtual machines work (which some games apparently lock out with their anti-cheat as well) so I shelved that idea into "stuff I don't feel like figuring out because it cuts into my game time". About the people telling me to just get Win 10 for free, I like to pay for products that I use as a personal life choice and it is $189 here in Canada for it, which is not worth it. Linux has been very good anyways and for a lot of things I do actually prefer it.

Here are the places to find solution :

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47198#c15 This is the wineHQ thread realted to this new particular issues BTW the USER : "Andrew Wesie" found a fix by recompiling a patched glibc and wine-staging version witch everyone can do the patch are on the link on top

If your not used to recompile libc and stuff like this you can check on this link for automatic installation when it will be realeased (Not up at the moment) https://lutris.net/games/league-of-legends/

There we go fck you riot

A fix has been found on https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47198#c15 !!!! however, i dont know how to patch it into league and compile the files... i dont even know what they are talking about. if anyone here can explain it for me because I tried to search elsewhere but all of the examples are for how to fix other games. when I tried to follow their steps myself I just couldnt do it... but if you fix a typo in the code it will work 100% of the time allegedly

@TL Neverlift I dont think KVM is a good solution unless you have a proc with 8 core and 2 CG ... I am using kvm and PCIpassthrough but with my 4core proc and 4gb ram its impossible to play , its too laggy

Apparently it's due to broken implementation of : Glibc patch required to expand reserved size at top of struct pthread. But we are bored on this , you should not expect a new wine patch before 1 or 2 weeks :/

is their any solution or still broken ? because tbh im tired of this riot ruining all this and im also tired of those guys who tells us to dual boot ... does u windows user bother u guys that we are asking for our own client ? i dont see any probleme of getting our own client since fortnite is working for one and dota has already one but league cannot do it for no reason they just wanna ban linux players from league ... and not just refusing a client on linux but also ruining wine to stop us playing using a usless excuse being " 1% " ... their is 9000 linux user playing league on linux its not nothing if u dont wanna make a cilent on it u have just stop ruining wine progress on making it possible ... linux community is just the best one as far .. everyone can help u with passion and love of what they are doing ... and im sorry i cant switch to windows because of league and stop learning about what i love so its kinda an sacrifice if i cant play league never again so just u know that u guys riot support are the most toxic support in this earth and thank u so much for ruining ur reputation with this community but know that one day they can turn against u ( thank u guys )

Alistar someone has found a solution? i have the same problem.

Infernape5/16/2019, 11:07:25 AM2 votes

You know you can install Windows 10 for free without pirating it.

Install it normally and just ignore it telling you to activate it. All you'd have to do is get a program to remove the "activate Windows" watermark.

I doubt Riot's going to do anything about it or care because League doesn't officially support Linux.

@TL Neverlift I am having the same critical error when I leave the champion select screen after the 9.10 patch. It goes to a black screen as if it's going to load and then crashes. Lets see what they say when they answer you.

Reddit User Kerryeon made a trivial script that is supposed to patch glibc and wine Apparently it is working for arch and ubuntu and debian

https://gist.github.com/kerryeon/92b3c8dd1ab4d6bec57a66390162f477

I havent tryed it for the moment ...

you can go ahead and try it :) By reading it you will also understand how it works :)

Have you thought using dual booting and have windows only for LoL(and other games you enjoy ) and use for everything else linux. Maybe the linux version is causing the problem. Also have you tried to shutdown your antivirus? maybe that cause YOU the error and you either whitelist LoL or deactivate antivirus while you play the game.
