Couldn't focus game window
Summary:
- I loaded into the game properly, received all events, but could not focus the window or send any events. Wild guess is it's related to new USB driver?
Greetings, I played several games today successfully, but in my latest ranked 3v3 I was unable to play the game for a good 10 minutes because of this problem. The major symptom was that in-game, my mouse was still the "Windows mouse" (white with black outline).
- Could not type
- Could not move
- Could not hot-key level up first spell
- Could not buy
- Could not do any interaction with the game window at all
At the time, interaction with every other window was fine. I could load web browser, I could talk in discord, I could type in the league client program, I just couldn't do anything when I alt-tabbed back to the game window (which was full-screen).
System info:
- Windows 10 Pro, installed a couple weeks ago on fresh hard drive
- two monitors
- league loads full-screen in main monitor
- never seen a problem like this in all my years playing.
Attempts to fix:
- right-clicked on task bar and "close window" --> in-game it would pop up that alert about "you are needed, are you sure you want to leave?" but I couldn't click the buttons to say yes.
- Task Manager - End Process --> killed game window and reconnected perfectly, but still the same problem, couldn't focus the window to do anything. (i tried this step several times, no luck)
- Finally: reboot computer. This worked.
Wild guess as to cause:
The only thing in this whole scenario that I can think of that was different in between my functioning games this morning, and this broken one, was that in between I plugged in my camera via USB. Nikon Coolpix P900. I assume it installed something, because it said "device is ready to use" (since I haven't plugged in that camera since my re-install of Windows 10 Pro a couple weeks ago).
- there was no camera sync happening
- there was no camera software running
So my wild guess (and intuition as a software developer) is that the USB plug-in action plus installing a driver caused some weird interaction with the later start-up of full-screen lol that led to no mouse/keyboard events going to lol.
Follow-up:
I plugged in my camera again, and loaded a custom. No problems. So at least this means that the camera itself doesn't cause it, but doesn't rule out the driver install.
