Tris Ult Versus Jarvan

Okay so I'm kinda wondering if anyone has run into this before. Just finished a game playing as Tris and got my face handed to me by Jarvan. The frustrating part is no less that 2-3 times I used my ult to try and knock him away to escape and it was like it didn't even have an effect. Each time I found out it was because he had already started his ult and next thing I know instead of Jarvan being shot back I'm stuck in a crater dying... Game mechanics are one thing but based on physics I would think that Jarvan jumping in the air and then being hit by a giant shot from Tris should result in him flying backwards. Maybe an easy fix would be to have the shot throw him back but reset his cooldown on his ult like it didn't happen.

I think, and don't quote me on this, it depends on when the cast occurs vs. cast time. In my experiences the ultimate always goes off from Jarvan, but 30% of the time he is then flung out of it.

Each time I hit him even before he had touched down in the crater. Each time he took the damage but it was like the knock back effect just didn't exist. Best I can figure what happened was I had hit the button to cast and as I walk to get into range Jarvan must have jumped to ult as I hit him with the shot.

I can understand how it works, though I'm not sure how well I can explain it.

J4 is one of those champs where the only way to interrupt their ult cast is to kill them, similar to how Wukong will still spin even if he's cc locked. Unless you kill him mid-air, J4 will finish creating the cataclysm. In this particular instance, what happens is that Trist ult attempts to knock back J4, but since he's still in the self-displacement portion of the animation, his displacement overrides the displacement from Trist ult and he continues to move towards creating the crater anyway. The damage from Trist ult should still apply (AFAIK).

Unless you can ult him before he gets into his displacement channel (starts ulting you), your best bet is wait until the displacement portion is over, then ult him away. At least that way he's not inside with you, taking your lunch money like a bad 80s film.
